ACTS is a joint activity supported by the IEEE Circuit and System Society (CASS) and the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS). The goal of the school is to provide society members as well researchers and engineers from industry the opportunity to learn about new emerging areas from leading experts in the field. ACTS is an example of high-level continuous education for junior engineers, teachers in academe, and students. ACTS was the results of a successful collaboration between societies, the local chapter leaders, and industry leaders.

Zhihua Wang received his BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in Electronic Engineering in 1983, 1985 and 1990, respectively, from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, where he has served as full professor and Deputy Director of the Institute of Microelectronics since 1997 and 2000, respectively. He was a visiting scholar at CMU (1992-1993) and KU Leuven (1993-1994), and was a visiting professor at HKUST (2014.9-2015.3). His current research mainly focuses on CMOS RFIC and biomedical applications, involving RFID, PLL, low-power wireless transceivers, and smart clinic equipment combined with leading edge RFIC and digital image processing techniques. He has co-authored 11 books/chapters, over 160 (439) papers in international journals (conferences), and holds 121 Chinese and 7 US patents. Professor Wang has served as the chairman of IEEE SSCS Beijing Chapter (1999-2009), an AdCom Member of the IEEE SSCS (2016-2019), a technology program committee member of the IEEE ISSCC (2005-2011), a steering committee member of the IEEE A-SSCC (2005-), the technical program chair for A-SSCC 2013, a Guest Editor for IEEE JSSC Special Issues (2006.12, 2009.12 and 2014.11), an associate editor of IEEE Trans on CAS-I, II and IEEE Trans on BioCAS, and other administrative/expert committee positions in China's national science and technology projects.
Jan Van der Spiegel is a Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He is former Department Chair of Electrical Engineering, and Associate Dean of Education and Professional Programs of the School of Engineering. He was a Senior Visiting Professor at the Institute of Microelectronics and the Department of Electronics Engineering at Tsinghua University (September 2017 to February 2018). Dr. Van der Spiegel received his Master's degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering and his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Leuven, Belgium. His primary research interests are in mixed-mode VLSI design, CMOS vision sensors for polarization imaging, bio-inspired image sensors and brain-machine interfaces. He is the author of over 250 journal and conference papers and holds 8 patents. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, a Distinguished Lecturer of the Solid-State Circuit Society, an Associate Editor of the Transaction of BioCAS, a member of the Editorial Board of the IEEE Proceedings and Section Editor of the Journal of Engineering of Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). He is currently the Conference Chair of the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC).
Franco Maloberti received a Laurea Degree in Physics (Summa cum Laude) from the University of Parma, Parma Italy, in 1968, and the Doctor Honoris Causa degree in Electronics from the Instituto Nacional de Astrofisica, Optica y Electronica (Inaoe), Puebla, Mexico in 1996. He was a Visiting Professor at ETH-PEL, Zurich in 1993 and at EPFL-LEG, Lausanne in 2004. He was Professor of Microelectronics and Head of the Micro Integrated Systems Group University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy and the TI/J.Kilby Analog Engineering Chair Professor at the Texas A&M University. He was also the Distinguished Microelectronic Chair Professor at University of Texas at Dallas. Currently he is Emeritus Professor at the University of Pavia, Italy and Honorary Professor, University of Macau, China SAR. His professional expertise is in the design, analysis and characterization of integrated circuits and analogue digital applications, mainly in the areas of switched capacitor circuits, data converters, interfaces for telecommunication and sensor systems, and CAD for analogue and mixed A-D design. He has written more than 550 published papers, seven books and holds 33 patents. He is the Chairman of The Academic Committee of the Microelectronics Key Lab, Macau, China. He is the President of the IEEE CAS Society, is a member of the Editorial Board of Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, and Life Fellow of IEEE.
