To say Sheriff Natalie Strand is shocked that Sarah Eastman, the girl who kissed her at a high school party, is back in town would be a huge understatement. Between Sarah's return and a stray dog that gets the best of her, Natalie's world is suddenly turned upside down.
They say you can't go home again, but that's exactly what Sarah does when she returns to Spruce Mountain, Oregon, to live with her aunt and uncle after her divorce. All she wants is peace and to ensure her daughter, Harley, has stability. Seeing Natalie again after seventeen years ignites a passion that she hasn't felt in a long time. Never mind that her heart tumbles in her chest or that she forgets words when Natalie's around, she needs to focus on her family and getting her life back together.
Natalie and Sarah are about to discover that anything is possible when love takes the long way home.

Person
Erin Zak hails from Colorado where she grew up in a small town of 2500 people. She was a great athlete and even better student, maintaining a phenomenal grade point average while being involved with every club and activity she could. Zak started writing at a young age, letting her mind wander whenever she had a spare moment. It wasn't until high school when she really started to dig into writing full-length stories, only allowing her closest friends to read them.
Zak made her way to Indiana where she studied communications for her undergraduate degree at Purdue University. Eventually, she went back to get a master's degree in business administration. She put her passion aside while she started a career in higher education in the admissions office, helping students find their own passion.
Now living in Tampa, Florida, close to the Gulf of Mexico, Zak helps run a small landscaping company. She hopes one day it will allow her to work solely on her writing. Her wife and stepdaughter also live in Florida, along with their family cocker spaniel. Zak enjoys films, especially science fiction and romance, and also loves cooking when time allows.
