In Scripture and the Authority of God: How to Read the Bible Today, Widely respected Bible and Jesus scholar, N. T. Wright gives new life to the old, tattered doctrine of the authority of scripture, delivering a fresh, helpful, and concise statement on biblical interpretation and the current ?battles for the Bible,? and restoring scripture as the primary place to find God's voice.
In this revised and expanded version of The Last Word, leading biblical scholar N. T. Wright shows how both evangelicals and liberals are guilty of misreading Scripture and reveals his renowned five-act model for understanding God's authority and the Bible.
Wright provides a clear path forward for the church, showing readers how to:
- Move Beyond the Bible Wars: Discover a more faithful way of reading that transcends the fruitless cycle of liberal versus evangelical debates.
- Understand God's Authority: Learn the crucial difference between the ?authority of scripture? and God's own authority exercised through scripture.
- Apply a Narrative Framework: Grasp N. T. Wright's influential five-act model of biblical history to see the Bible as a unified, coherent story from Genesis to Revelation.
- Read the Bible with Integrity: Equip yourself with the tools to interpret scripture in a way that is historically grounded, theologically robust, and spiritually transformative.
- Engage with Case Studies: Explore practical examples, including Sabbath and monogamy, that demonstrate how this new model for biblical authority works in practice.
