Janika knows that she and Toby can't afford to keep her office above the Button Up Coffee Shop and pay the mortgage for their new house. Her main assignment is to discover what's behind a cellar door, following a plea from the joint owner. Unfortunately, it has a high security lock, and it's vital for her client's safety that she leaves no sign of entry behind. This assignment involves much planning and possible danger.
As if that isn't enough to keep her busy, Janika has a plea from a soap actor to find out who is threatening his life. She is reluctant to take the job on, because the actor claims the man has a knife.
The pastor at her church wants to know who has been helping themselves to money from the offertory box in the church lobby. And the answer reduces her to tears.
One day, sitting in her office and looking at Humphrey Broxburn's wedding gift of a painting in the style of Renoir, Janika realises that she has the equipment and skills to carry out a detailed investigation. If she's right, and the painting is by Renoir, she'll definitely be able to keep renting her office above the Button Up coffee shop!
