In 1865 the Northern State's superior numbers and industrial superiority were grinding the Civil War to its inevitable end. In the mountains of East Tennessee the Cahill family, who wished only to be left alone to tend their small farm, was eventually forced to take sides in their community.
Local prejudice, bias, and eventually, an unavoidable act of violence, forced them to abandon their home. Seeking to leave past events behind, the Cahills abandoned their home and joined the mass migration of pioneers heading west along the California-Oregon Trail. Their aim was to start a new life in a new land. Violence followed them.

Nick Wright is a third generation Arkansan and the proud descendent of a Confederate cavalryman. Born in Arkadelphia and raised in Benton he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from what is now Henderson State University and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida.
After graduating from Henderson he spent the summer as a resident instructor for the Job Corps. In the fall he moved to Melbourne, Florida where he embarked on a fulfilling career with the Brevard County School District. Throughout his time in education he taught elementary school physical education, taught fifth and sixth grade math and science.
Later he moved to Melbourne High School and taught computer education and coached boy's basketball.
As a leader in secondary school athletic administration he was Athletics Director at Melbourne High School for sixteen years and served as President, Vice-president, and executive board member of the Florida High School Athletic Administrators Association.
Since retiring, he has returned to his home state where he and his wife, Ginger, also a retired educator, enjoy their retirement in Hot Springs Village. He has two adult sons, Nick and Tim.
Outside of his professional achievements, Mr. Wright enjoys reading, genealogy, travel with his wife, and photography. His photographs have been used as the cover art for each of his books.
Joshua is his eighth novel and he continues to find joy in sharing meaningful stories inspired by his life, family history, and passion for education.
His other titles include Spirits Remembered, Dust, Sweat, and Blood, Barnes, Exempt From Fear, Let Them Wait, Rail's End, and River's Bend. He is currently researching his next book.
