The book draws from hundreds of findings reported inthe literature over the past decade. It features an internationallyrespected team of authors and editors, all experts in the field ofvibrational spectroscopy at surfaces and interfaces. Content isdivided into three parts:
* Part One, Nonlinear Vibrational Spectroscopy, exploresproperties of interfacial water, ions, and biomolecules at chargeddielectric, metal oxide, and electronically conductive metalcatalyst surfaces. In addition to offering plenty of practicalexamples, the chapters present the latest measurement andinstrumental techniques.
* Part Two, Raman Spectroscopy, sets forth highlysensitive approaches for the detection of biomolecules atsolid-liquid interfaces as well as the use of photon depolarizationstrategies to elucidate molecular orientation at surfaces.
* Part Three, IRRAS Spectroscopy (including PM-IRRAS),reports on wide-ranging systems--from small fuel molecules atwell-defined surfaces to macromolecular complexes--that serveas the building blocks for functional interfaces in devicesdesigned for chemical sensing and electric power generation.
The Wiley Series on Electrocatalysis and Electrochemistry isdedicated to reviewing important advances in the field, exploringhow these advances affect industry. The series defines what wecurrently know and can do with our knowledge of electrocatalysisand electrochemistry as well as forecasts where we can expect thefield to be in the future.

ANDRZEJ WIECKOWSKI, PhD, is Emeritus Professor ofChemistry at the University of Illinois and the North AmericanEditor for Electrochimica Acta. His research focused onelectrode surface structure in relation to electrocatalysis,molecular-level studies of surface oxidation and reductionprocesses, and surface motional behavior in electrocatalysis.
CAROL KORZENIEWSKI, PhD, is Professor of Chemistry atTexas Tech University. Her research, supported by the U. S.National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and Departmentof Defense, centers on the use of vibrational spectroscopy to probeinterfacial processes in electrochemistry.
BJÖRN BRAUNSCHWEIG, PhD, is a Postdoctoral ResearchAssociate at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and was arecipient of the Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship of the Alexandervon Humboldt Foundation. His junior research group focuses on thenonlinear optical spectroscopy of charged interfaces.
