From the moment Steve, at the age of five, excitedly jumped out of the car barefoot into a patch of grass burrs in Abilene, Texas, he knew he was where he was supposed to be--in the Wild West, among cowboys on horses wearing hats and boots. As he grew older, he would manifest that dream into reality.
Fun Valley Cowboy is a collection of Steve Warner memoirs of adventures and misadventures of a Huck Finn childhood, ranching, rodeoing, rocky mountain horse wrangling, and being a high-profile wildlife biologist and a big game hunter. Hunting stories only look at the hunt's adventures, not the game harvest.
"That's the buck you want," I said. The general aimed but didn't shoot, and I glanced over to see his hands shaking so badly that he couldn't get the safety off the gun. It was one of the most incredible things I've ever witnessed. Here was the man who had overwhelmingly won the Gulf War, a sharpshooter in the army, with buck fever so intense that he couldn't even take the safety off the rifle.
Steve's stories include bear wrestling, being chased by bears, riding a cape buffalo, being mauled by a plethora of exotic animals, cave exploration, Yellowstone-style bunkhouse antics, cowboy stories, being shot at, wilderness survival, revealing a lost treasure hoard, managing a world-class wildlife operation, and participating and hatching some of the most elaborate practical jokes in history. Whether rattling deer for General Schwarzkopf, advertising endeavors with Nolan Ryan, guiding Ted Nugent on hunts, or hobnobbing with world leaders, Steve has had some great memorable experiences.
Fun Valley Cowboy is a unique read for all. It's a collection of Steve Warner's adventures--free from opinions, politics, religion, sex, violence, profanity, or anything else most people find controversial. This makes it a safe and enjoyable read for all.
