This will never be home.
Fifteen-year-old Claire Hamilton arrives at The American Academy of Switzerland with an aching heart and a clumsy back brace. She's already getting 'looks' from other students, and finishing the math exam an hour early doesn't help. Why even bother trying to fit in? She doesn't want to be here, but her parents refuse to let her go to the same school as her boyfriend Luke.
And sticking up for an injured crow-another misfit-just gives the others one more reason to avoid Claire. Especially now that the crow has glued itself to her. But when Claire travels with a school group to Dachau, an old WWII concentration camp, she sees what horrors result when people are labeled 'misfits' and dehumanized.
Could something like that happen again? Is she in danger?

"Will you introduce me to your new friend?" Amma Libua asked.
The crow was pacing back and forth on my bed, grumbling.
"Amma, this is Maddie. She's-"
"-come to rescue you," the lioness said.
