Description
This short book-written in the form of letters-is the story of Demosthenes and Elegos, a newly married couple from Chios. Demosthenes has emigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, while his young wife is waiting on the island for the coveted ship ticket to meet him in America. Through the correspondence of Demosthenes and Elegos-dating from the days of the First World War-fragments of the immigrant experience in the landscapes of steel and coal, as well as the history of Chios, are recorded. "Pittsburgh" is a broken dream; a lost detail in the great adventure of immigration.
