This is a true story of trekking the width and length of one of the wildest and most dangerous rainforests in the world. Our journey was about the 65-mile trek through the Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula on the southern end of Costa Rica. But like many places, just getting there or getting back to civilization was equally challenging. The area is wild, where there are no developments or improvements, including roads, bridges, or harbors. Access is restricted to about 20 persons who must be accompanied by a certified guide. The park is a wild park, measuring about 40 miles x 20 miles, containing dozens of animals, insects, and reptiles that are deadly. There are vast expanses of marshes populated with caiman, wide rivers without bridges or boats populated with bull sharks and crocodiles. On any given day, we were 3-4 days away from help, transport, or rescue. This was not a trip for the mild-mannered or those weak in heart or skills.
