This edited volume is brought out from the contributions of the research papers presented in the International Conference on Data Science and Business Analytics (ICDSBA- 2017), which was held during September 23-25 2017 in ChangSha, China. As we all know, the field of data science and business analytics is emerging at the intersection of the fields of mathematics, statistics, operations research, information systems, computer science and engineering. Data science and business analytics is an interdisciplinary field about processes and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data. Data science and business analytics employ techniques and theories drawn from many fields including signal processing, probability models, machine learning, statistical learning, data mining, database, data engineering, pattern recognition, visualization, descriptive analytics, predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics, uncertainty modeling, big data, data warehousing, data compression, computer programming, business intelligence, computational intelligence, and high performance computing among others. Dr. Tavana is a Senior Lecturer at Rutgers University and the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce Et Management in France. He has served as the President of Alpha Iota Delta (the International Honor Society for Decision Sciences and Information Systems). He has been a Visiting Scholar at the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management and held several Visiting Professorship positions in France, Switzerland, Korea, China, Ukraine, and Mexico.
Dr. Srikanta Patnaik is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SOA University, Bhubaneswar, India. He received his Ph. D. (Engineering) in Computational Intelligence from Jadavpur University, India in 1999 and supervised 12 Ph. D. theses and more than 30 M. Tech theses in the areas of Machine Intelligence, Soft Computing Applications and Re-Engineering. Dr. Patnaik has published more than 60 research papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He is the author of 2 text books and edited 12 books and few invited book chapters, published by leading international publishers like Springer-Verlag, Kluwer Academic, etc.. Dr. Patnaik was the Principal Investigator of TAPTEC project "Building Cognition for Intelligent Robot" sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, and Major Research Project "Machine Learning and Perception using Cognition Methods" sponsored by the University Grant Commission. He is the Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Information and Communication Technology and International Journal of Computational Vision and Robotics published from Inderscience Publishing House, England, and also Editor-in-chief of Book Series on "Modeling and Optimization in Science and Technology" published by Springer. Dr. Patnaik has also edited many proceedings volumes, all published by Springer.
