"Editors Tabakov, Milano, Sprawls, Stoeva, Tipnis, and Underwood have expanded the 2013 work of the same title. This great resource has more than 3,300 entries. Compiling a book that covers all areas of medical physics is a heroic task, and the editors have done a wonderful job. This expanded edition includes more than 650 new terms related to the fields of non-ionising radiation safety and medical equipment management. Each entry is concise and easy to read, making appropriate use of equations and figures, with further readings included. Every library and hospital should have a copy of this work...This book will be a useful reference for medical professionals, particularly radiologists, including those still in training.

"The past decades have seen a rapid growth of the medical physics profession globally, with more than 27,000 medical physicists worldwide in 2020. As a significant part of the growth is in developing countries, there exists a substantial need for easy access to educational material, especially in the low- and middle-income countries. This second edition is one of the outcomes of the EMERALD education project (which started in 1995) and, since the first edition in 2013, continues to provide medical physics education for students and professions around the world. The book is intended to provide cross-referenced entries for easy lookup. It contains a large number of small items with general knowledge in multiple fields of medical physics, with the aim of providing training and education for medical physics professionals around the world. Since the first edition published in 2013, there have been many advances in medical physics. The authors have revised the existing materials and added new terms and entries in this updated edition.

While many groups of professions will find this encyclopedia helpful, the main audience is graduate students and medical physicists, especially from low- and middle-income countries. It is a great learning resource for those who have limited access to full medical physics textbooks and learning materials.
