A secretive hometown. A reluctant return. Can she face her past and determine her future before it's too late?
Seraphina Lastra Covington dreads going home. Twelve years after a magic terrorist attack in her hometown of Merricott, New Hampshire, the unemployed twenty-five year old returns to a hostile town and an uncertain future. But when her not-so-imaginary childhood friend resurfaces in her head, she finds everything she knows about the past and herself are not what they seem.
Ignoring the voice in her head, Seraphina focuses on getting out of dodge. When someone she cares about goes missing and the town blames her aunt, Seraphina fears not listening to the voice will be her doom. Can the voice in her head help her unravel the secrets of the past and present before time runs out for everyone she loves?

Person
Cassandra Stirling's entire career revolves around language. She has worked in the fields of law, publishing, and marketing; writing a book seemed like a natural progression. In 2020, her husband noted that, while Cassandra's childhood dream job was to be a writer, she "was not a writer," as "she didn't write."
She proved him wrong by writing her debut novel, The Deep Space Between. When she's not writing or working, Cassandra can be found playing video games, reading, cross-stitching, or generally figuring out how to fit all of her life into the seventeen hours a day she's not sleeping.
