Despite the cancer killing Sammy one blood cell at a time, she finds herself distracted by the transcendent revelation of memories from a past life. It remains unclear if she recollected these memories from returning to the Legna Manor or being at death's door. Regardless, Sammy puts worry aside to relive her days as Sylvia Legna, an heiress born in the late nineteenth century. Driven by revenge, Sylvia sought power from a powerful demon to bring justice to her lover's murderer, her father's assassin, and the dismantler of her company. Sylvia will come to learn that revenge isn't as straightforward as hiring a hit man, and it costs more than a soul.
As Sammy tells Sylvia's story, Connor drowns in internal turmoil. While he delights at her remembrance of a past life, he fears that she might see him as the demon butler instead of a loving caregiver, not to mention the grief he refuses to acknowledge and the constant battle to keep his temper under control. It doesn't make it any easier to have constant threats sneaking in through windows and back doors, which forces Connor's hand to rely heavily on his loyal followers. Each follower does his or her part to keep Sammy safe and gently approach Connor about his grief. However, it is the outcast, Sakura, who challenges Connor to acknowledge the hard truths about Sammy and himself. As much as he resists Sakura's challenges, it is ultimately her defiance that uncovers the lifesaving cure for Sammy's cancer.
