Multiple User Interfaces allow people using mobile phones, laptops, desk tops, palm tops or PDAs to access and read informationfrom their central server or the internet in a coherent andconsistent way and to communicate effectively with other users whomay be using different devices. Ahmed Seffah is a professor in the department of ComputerScience at Concordia University. He is director of theHuman-Centered Software Engineering Group and the co-founder of theConcordia Software Usability and Empirical Studies Lab. He holds aPhD in software engineering from the Ecole Centrale de Lyon(France). His research interest are at the crossroads betweensoftware engineering and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI),including usability measurement, user interface design, empiricalstudies on developer experiences with CASE tools, human-centeredsoftware engineering, and patterns as a vehicle for integrating HCIknowledge in software engineering practices. Dr. Seffah isthe vice-chair of the IFIP working group on user-centereddesign methodologies. During the last 10 years, he has beeninvolved in different projects in North America and Europe.
Homa Javahery is a researcher and project manager withthe Human-Centered Software Engineering Group, including theUsability and Empirical Studies Lab, in the department of ComputerScience at Concordia University. She holds a Master's degree inComputer Science from Concordia University, and a Bachelor ofScience degree from McGill University. She is combiningdifferent design approaches from human sconces and engineeringdisciplines to develop a pattern-oriented framework for designing alarge variety of interfaces. She has been involved in differentcollaborative projects at the INRIA Research Institute in Nancy,France and the Daimler-Chrysler Research Institute in Ulm,Germany.
