This book attempts to examine the challenges that a Mega City like Delhi is set to face, Describing the growth and development of Delhi, it takes a close look at the unplanned growth of the city, mushrooming of unauthorized colonies, regularization of unauthorized colonies and resettlement of squatters. It also addresses the issues concerning land protection, management of urban land, preservation of Yamuna, traffic management, and institutional partnership for urban infrastructure. The author stresses that we cannot miraculously transform the city from its present state by merely providing more infrastructure. Psyche and the mindset of the people must change. Improved infrastructure in terms of water, power, sewerage, road net-work, transportation system, educational and health-care alone cannot make it a class city. There needs to be change in attitude and thinking of the residents. The book takes the humane approach towards the National Capital and suggests that administration must be responsive. Delhites need to exhibit sincere commitment and only then we can look for, and find in Delhi-The Mega City, a city of hope, aspirations and opportunities.
