A decree is amended.
A registry expands.
A correction acquires authority.
In the aftermath of consolidation, the systems meant to preserve order begin preserving themselves. Ministries duplicate records to confirm prior records. Verification offices emerge to authenticate earlier verification offices. Ledgers multiply faster than decisions can be made.
What begins as administrative maintenance becomes something else.
Across corridors of sealed archives, procedural tribunals, and interpretive councils, language itself begins to harden into governance. Every revision creates another dependency. Every clarification generates another contradiction. Entire classes of officials now exist solely to interpret prior interpretations.
And somewhere beneath the expanding machinery, memory starts disappearing.
Told through fragmented directives, annotations, memoranda, procedural disputes, and institutional correspondence, Reversion is a literary epistolary novel about systems that no longer distinguish between preservation and control.
The second volume of the Threshold Trilogy.
