JO BEALL is Director of Education and Society at UNU-WIDER, and member of the executive board of the British Council. She was formerly Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, prior to which she was a professor of development studies at the London School of Economics, UK.
RAVI KANBUR is T.H Lee Professor of World Affairs, International Professor of Applied Economics and Management, and Professor of Economics at Cornell University, USA. He has taught at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Essex, Warwick, Princeton and Columbia. He has served on the senior staff of the World Bank, including as Principal Adviser to the Chief Economist at the World Bank. He has also served as Director of the World Bank's World Development Report.
