Democracy has monsters. And they're hungry.
The Wendigo devours America's last wilderness. Moloch burns children to fund tax cuts for the wealthy. The Minotaur builds two labyrinths-one for white refugees, one for everyone else. Dracula discovers that an entire nation's blood tastes sweeter than any individual victim's.
In American Monsters, twenty-nine legendary creatures narrate their own stories of corruption and chaos in Trump's America. Each monster reveals how ancient evils have evolved to feed on modern democracy, transforming real political outrages into visceral horror.
This isn't traditional political commentary. It's mythology made flesh, where the Basilisk dies from seeing his own reflection in a four-letter acronym, where the Dragon hoards the wealth of nations while peasants starve, where the Banshee's wail announces the death of American intellectual dominance.
The monsters speak in their own voices-seductive, terrifying, utterly convinced of their righteousness. They make you feel the horror of what's happening, not just understand it intellectually.
But the final chapter reminds us that Perseus slew Medusa, Beowulf defeated Grendel, and Van Helsing destroyed Dracula. Heroes exist. Monsters can be stopped.

Monsters can be stopped. They always have been. They always will be.
