In an age of specialisation, no single researcher can navigate the vast scope of knowledge required to tackle today's challenges. Modern research recognises the interconnectivity between the natural sciences and the humanities and relies on collaboration - both within and across disciplines - to address societal and environmental issues. Interdisciplinary exchange creates networks, connectivity and flows between diverse perspectives and paves the way for novel discoveries. It has become essential for addressing global issues such as climate change and social and political discord, with science playing a central role in finding solutions. Innovation remains key, offering not only practical outcomes but also deeper, evidence-based insights into our world.

The idea for this e-book was born from stimulating discussions among the fellows and members of the Johanna Quandt Young Academy. This compilation of interdisciplinary essays explores the diverse scientific fields represented at this academy for young researchers at Goethe University. It highlights how interdisciplinary dialogue can lead to new perspectives and advance research.
