[Carl Heinz Ratschow (1911-1999). Life and Thought of a Theological Encyclopedist] Ratschow, a German systematic theologian and scholar of old-oriental, Old Testament and religious studies, taught in Münster and Marburg. In his Magie und Religion, Der angefochtene Glaube, Die Religionen, etc. he broke up the narrow soteriological approach of Barthianism by unfolding the implications also of creation theology for ethics, ecology, and theology of religions already before becoming public concerns. He fostered Tillich-research and founded the Neue Zeitschrift für Systematische Theologie and Theologische Realenzyklopädie. Vis à vis the increasing specialization of theology and its growing gap to church practice, he developed an encyclopedic method by analyzing the present challenge, discussing it in the light of Biblical exegesis as well as in the context of other religions, and via church history (the tradition connecting Bible and today) he returned with the findings to the present.

The file format PDF always displays a book page identically on any hardware. This makes PDF suitable for complex layouts such as those used in textbooks and reference books (images, tables, columns, footnotes). Unfortunately, on the small screens of e-readers or smartphones, PDFs are rather annoying, requiring too much scrolling.
This eBook uses Watermark-DRM, a „soft” copy protection. This means that there are no technical restrictions to prevent illegal distribution. However, there is a personalised watermark embedded in the eBook that can be used to identify the purchaser of the eBook in the event of misuse and to provide evidence for legal purposes.
