Description
Global warming and climate change present complex interlockingissues of public policy, multilateral negotiation, andtechnological advancement. This book explores both theproblems and the opportunities presented by internationalagreements, and examines the technological developments and policygoals that can be pursued to effect the changes necessary. Specific steps are proposed in the form of a list of priorities.
This book represents a cooperative enterprise between twoauthors of different backgrounds - engineering and internationalrelations - and is directed to an educated butnon-professional lay audience without any formal training in eitherscience or international relations. The points of view ofnegotiators from both developed and developing nations arepresented and compared. Each topic is presented from bothtechnical and policy perspectives as a means to evaluate thevariety of proposals that have been offered as remedies to globalwarming.
The text is supported by illustrations and tables whereappropriate, including a list of References at the end of eachchapter.

DANIEL D. PERLMUTTER is Professor of Chemical Engineering atthe University of Pennsylvania, and has served as Chair of theChemical Engineering Department at the University and as UniversityOmbudsman. His contributions were recognized by a Lindbach Awardfor excellence in teaching, a Guggenheim Foundation Award forresearch, two Fulbright Fellowships, and the Lectureship Award ofthe American Association for Engineering Education. Hisresearch focused on the dynamics and control of chemical reactionsystems, yielded three books and many publications in professionaljournals.
ROBERT L. ROTHSTEIN was the Harvey Picker DistinguishedProfessor of International Relations at Colgate University. He haspublished widely on the international negotiating process and peaceprocesses in protracted conflicts and has been awarded a variety ofprestigious fellowships, including the Rockefeller Foundation, theCarnegie Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson International Center forScholars, and the U.S. Institute of Peace. He has also been aconsultant to the Department of State and a number of foundationsand international institutions.
