This collaborative effort bv Paul, a former strategic planner forCEO Jack Welch at General Electric, and business writer Cox (Zapp!)is described in the promotional copy as "a novel for managers," afictional story that illustrates the business principle of the"boundaryless" company pioneered by Welch. It's a stodgy buteffective effort in which an inefficient, disorganizedwidget-producing outfit called Essential resolves a direcompanywide communication problem just in time to avoid corporatedisaster. Paul and Cox's approach is to create a series ofhigh-level managerial characters with stereotypical businesspersonalities. The huge cast includes Rick Riggins, theauthoritarian "get it done now" company president; Frank Harlan, the egotistical, turf-protecting genius engineer; and Jake Foster,a slow-but-steady operations manager new to the company. Essentialis about to lose its biggest client because the company can'tdeliver its widgets on time. The desperate Riggins hires a wiseconsultant named George Tracey, who guides the company through therevitalization process, starting with candid employee interviewsfollowed by a weekend brainstorming session and a retreat. Paul andCox do a solid job of creating believable business problems andinterpersonal conflicts, though the story is broken up by havingtoo many employees take a turn narrating in short, choppy sections.General readers will steer clear, but the novel does offer apleasant spoonful of literary sugar for business types who want toabsorb the latest management trends. The file format PDF always displays a book page identically on any hardware. This makes PDF suitable for complex layouts such as those used in textbooks and reference books (images, tables, columns, footnotes). Unfortunately, on the small screens of e-readers or smartphones, PDFs are rather annoying, requiring too much scrolling.
This eBook uses Adobe-DRM, a „hard” copy protection. If the necessary requirements are not met, unfortunately you will not be able to open the eBook. You will therefore need to prepare your reading hardware before downloading.
