The original version of this book is a bilingual book for international students and overseas readers, which is included in the "Introduction to China's S&T Innovation", a project funded by the Hubei Provincial Public Welfare Academic Publication Special Funds in 2024.
The book consists of 14 chapters. Based on the introduction of the historical foundation and natural conditions of China's economic development, it introduces the history of China's economic development in stages such as before 1949, 1949-1978, after 1978, and the new period; and then in the form of special topics it discusses China's opening up to the outside world and international trade , rural reform and agricultural modernization, reform of the state-owned enterprise system with Chinese characteristics, industrialization and urbanization, and reform of the state-owned enterprise system with Chinese characteristics, industrialization process and urban development, macro-economic policy and fiscal and taxation system, and the reform and establishment of modern financial system; and finally, it introduces the economic development model with Chinese characteristics, the development concept and development pattern in the new era. The book explains the policy background and internal logic of China's economic growth, reflects the achievements and experience of China's economic reform, and tells the world the story of China's economic miracle in a clear, concise, and easy-to-understand manner.

Hongbing Ouyang , male, professor , doctoral supervisor and vice dean of the School of Economics of Huazhong University of Science and Technology,. He used to be a visiting professor at Seogang University in South Korea, a senior researcher at the City University of Hong Kong. He is also a director of the Hubei Society of Financial Statistics. His main research interests include financial economics, financial econometrics, corporate finance, asset pricing, financial regulation, etc. He has presided over and participated in 5 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the National Social Science Foundation of China (NSSFC), published 3 monographs, and more than 10 academic papers in domestic and international journals.
Yaqing Liu , female, got Ph.D. degree in quantitative economics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She used to be the post-doctor in applied economics of School of Economic and Management , Tsinghua University and now is an associate professor of School of Medicine and Health Management, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Her research interest focuses on econometric methodology and basic applied research, spatial econometrics applied in regional economics, health policy and management, research on synergy mechanism of primary healthcare services, and research on synergy mechanism of healthcare and healthcare.
Xiaofeng Zhao , female, got master's degree in economics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She is now an associate researcher and vice dean of the School of International Education of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She has long been engaged in the work of international education, possessing rich experience in the recruitment, training, and management of international students.
