Towards an Holistic Understanding of Management

this e-book consists of papers presented at the IESE Business School International Symposium on &quote;Facing the Crisis: Towards a New Humanistic Synthesis&quote;, May 13-15, 2010. A number of scholars had already noted the need to rethink management development so that all dimensions of business activity are taken into consideration, including economic results and impact on people, in order to make progress towards a holistic understanding of management and a new humanistic synthesis between technical and human and ethical aspects of business and organization. More than 80 papers were presented at the Symposium, with extremely interesting contributions from scholars from all over the world, illuminating different aspects of the problem and contributing from multiple angles to a richer understanding of the issues. The quality of the papers presented was really impressive, and we soon reached an agreement with the Journal of Management Development to edit this e-book with some of the best contributions to the Symposium. We have selected for this e-book six papers, all of them with a strong potential to improve our understanding and practice of a holistic view of management.
