Is There Not a Cause? Standing for God in a Silent Generation
In the valley of Elah, two armies stood face to face. Armor was worn. Weapons were ready. Battle lines were drawn. Yet for forty days, nothing happened. Fear had frozen the army of Israel, while a single enemy voice echoed unchecked.
Into that silence walked a shepherd.
David's question-"Is there not a cause?"-was not a boast. It was an awakening. He saw what others had grown accustomed to ignoring: a threatened people, a stalled army, and a blasphemed God. His clarity changed the course of history.
In Is There Not a Cause?, veteran pastor and Bible teacher Marvin McKenzie explores this familiar account with fresh seriousness, moving beyond the children's story to uncover its enduring message for believers today. This is not a book about slaying giants for personal success. It is a call to recognize responsibility when fear has silenced obedience.
With steady narrative clarity, McKenzie traces the progression from intimidation to inaction, exposing how fear disguises itself as caution and routine replaces courage. He shows how armies-and churches-can look prepared while accomplishing little, and how faithfulness is often forged far from public view.
This book confronts hard realities:
- A world threatened by eternal consequences
- Sin as a cruel master that enslaves and destroys
- Churches equipped with truth yet hesitant to act
- God's honor diminished through silence, redefinition of sin, and rejection of Christ
At the same time, it offers enduring hope. When the giant falls, everything changes. Salvation glorifies God. Obedience restores momentum. One act of faith inspires many others to move forward.
Written in a calm, reflective style rooted firmly in Scripture, Is There Not a Cause? calls readers to examine their own valleys of decision. It invites believers to move beyond routine Christianity and rediscover purposeful obedience. It challenges readers not to wait for ideal conditions, broader consensus, or someone else to act first.
The book concludes with a clear presentation of the gospel from the King James Version, reminding readers that rescue precedes responsibility and that eternal matters demand timely response.
This is not a book of noise or hype. It is a book of clarity.
The cause still exists. The silence can still be broken.
The question remains-
Is there not a cause?
