Mark Battenlag is a changed man. Once a notorious burglar with a reputation that preceded him, he's spent the last three years trying to live an honest life after the death of his wife and the responsibility of caring for his twenty-two-year-old daughter, Mary. But desperation has driven him back to his old ways. He targets a wealthy, vacant house, determined to steal just enough to survive, convinced this will be his last job.
As Mark navigates the silent house under the cloak of darkness, a growing sense of unease washes over him. Despite meticulous planning, a persistent premonition of disaster plagues his every move. He's not after riches, just a few hundred dollars, but the line between necessity and his past is blurring with each stolen item. Will he succeed in his desperate endeavor without jeopardizing his hard-won redemption and putting Mary's future at risk? Or is destiny waiting in the shadows?
