In 1985 North London, a shy sketch-artist named Linda swaps mixtapes and daydreams with Sean, a budding photographer who sees the world in frames and light. When an unexpected army posting sends Sean to Cyprus, their summer of firsts is cut short - leaving behind a handful of letters, a favourite song, and a question that never quite fades.
In 2025, life has moved on - careers, families, the quiet routines that fill a decade and then some - until an old message resurfaces and pulls the past back into focus. The Light Between Us is a story about second chances and the art that carries us through: the pictures we take, the sketches we keep, and the courage it takes to say "what if" one more time.

Steve McCarthy a contemporary fiction author, as well as a landscape, sports & events photographer and podcaster, based in Wiltshire (often found chasing light along Cornwall's north coast). Whatever the medium, Steve is obsessed with stories?especially the small, everyday moments that change everything.
In his novels, he writes warm, hopeful, heartfelt stories about time, second chances and the lives we almost lived: contemporary fiction that treats ordinary people and their emotions with care, humour and honesty.
