Thomas G. Mahnken currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Policy Planning. At the time this book was written, he was a Visit>ing Fellow at the Philip Merrill Center for Strategic Studies at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC, and a Professor of Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College. He is author/editor of nine books, including the forthcoming Routledge Strategic Studies Reader (2007).
