Recent advances in nanoengineered materials and metamaterials have increased the importance of estimating the effective electromagnetic properties of composite materials, and how their properties relate to those of its constituent non-homogenous materials.
This book is an overview of state-of-the-art analytical homogenization formalisms used to estimate the effective electromagnetic properties of complex composite materials. It focuses on anisotropic and bianisotropic materials in both the linear and weakly nonlinear regimes. In order to efficiently accommodate the mathematical complexities of anisotropy and bianisotropy, the coordinate-free language of dyadics is used throughout the book. Beginning with an introduction to homogenization, the book progresses to cover both constitutive and depolarization dyadics. The homogenization formalisms for linear and non-linear materials are examined, followed by their applications and multiple examples using Mathematica code
The book is a valuable reference for PhD students and researchers working on the electromagnetic theory of complex composite materials. This expanded and revised edition will provide readers with a thorough overview of theoretical and numerical results for specific classes of materials. Computer codes will also be included (Mathematica) to enable readers to readily perform their own calculations.
