In 1970, Harry Nilsson put out a kids album called the Point. It was filled with songs and narration. It is about a village wherever one has a point on their head except for one friendly kid named Oblio. His head is round and he is banished because he has no point.
In 1972, It became a TV movie directed by the guy who made the Tootsie Roll Pop commercial where the Wise Owl figures out how many licks will get you to the center of the Tootsie Roll Pop.
David Macpherson, as part of the First Watch Chronicles, picked this as the next movie to write about.
He goes into the history of the film and goes off on long tangents about other things the makers of this film created.
While following along with the movie, David contemplates what it takes to make something creative. Do you need to be on drugs? Can you create mad stories sober? And why are people so interested in saying this was made on drugs and this one wasn't?
He writes about all these topics with respect and irreverence.
David allows the story and the theme of intolerance to lead him to new information and ideas to ponder, ideas that might have a point.
