The first volume of the POSA pattern series introduced abroad-spectrum of general-purpose patterns in software design andarchitecture. The second narrowed the focus to fundamentalpatterns for building sophisticated concurrent and networkedsoftware systems and applications. This volume uses design patternsto present techniques for implementing effective resourcemanagement in a system.
The patterns are covered in detail making use of severalexamples providing directions to the readers on how toimplement the presented patterns. Additionally, the volume presentsa thorough introduction into resource management and a case studywhere the patterns are applied to the domain of mobile radionetworks. The patterns are grouped by different areas of resourcemanagement and hence address the complete lifecycle of resources:resource acquisition, coordination and release.
