Kenneth D. Karlin is the Ira Remsen Professor of Chemistryat Johns Hopkins University. He received his PhD from ColumbiaUniversity. Dr. Karlin's bioinorganic research focuses oncoordination chemistry relevant to biological and environmentalprocesses, involving copper or heme (porphyrin-iron)complexes. Dr. Karlin's main approach involves syntheticmodeling, i.e. biomimetic chemistry. He is the winner of theprestigous F. Albert Cotton Award in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistryand the Sierra Nevada Distinguished Chemist Award, both awarded in2009
