A Journey from Deformity to Destiny
On July 12, 1984, Chimezie B. Ihekuna was ushered into the world face-first?a miraculous yet harrowing birth that left an indelible mark on his life. What was intended to be a momentary complication became the genesis of a lifelong facial deformity, setting the stage for a narrative defined by isolation, resilience, and an unwavering search for purpose.
Experiences is a raw and deeply moving memoir that chronicles the "school of hard knocks" navigated by a man who refused to be defined by his scars. From the surgical theatres of Lagos University Teaching Hospital to the academic halls of Nigeria's top universities, Chimezie invites readers into his private "world of my own," where the mirrors of society often reflected back judgment and pity.
Inside the Pages:
- The Weight of Family: Discover a candid exploration of a "house divided," where parental emotional distance and the absence of a father-to-son bond forced a young man to become his own psychological mentor.
- The Myth of Forgiveness: In a world governed by "tit for tat," Chimezie challenges the Hollywood-style ideal of forgiveness, offering a pragmatic look at the "law of cause and effect" through his own betrayals and triumphs.
- A Scientific Mind, an Artist's Soul: Follow the author's daring "U-Turn" from a career in Mechanical Engineering to his true calling as a writer, proving that greatness often starts from the smallest, most unlikely beginnings.
- The "Never Give Up" Spirit: Learn how to convert "DIS-couragement" into the courage meant for success, fueled by the conviction that every rejection?even from over a hundred publishers?is merely a step toward fulfilment.
- Brush with Death: From a horrific car accident where he walked away unhurt to a mysterious, life-threatening ailment that tested his very will to live, these chapters reveal a life shielded by an unseen arrangement.
Why Read This Book?
This is more than a personal history; it is a universal testament to the strength of the human spirit. It is written for the "loners," the dreamers, and anyone who has ever felt like a "fish on land". Chimezie offers a rare, unfiltered perspective on the Nigerian experience?from the decline of its educational system to the fetish philosophical practices that still haunt some family roots.
Through the "Ten Sayings" and reflections on being "schooled by life," Chimezie provides a roadmap for those seeking to re-chart their own course and find a home where the heart is finally at peace.
"Experiences" is a compelling reminder that while our scars are acquired along life's journey, they eventually serve as a testament to our enduring strength.
More details
Person
Chimezie B. Ihekuna was born and raised in the bustling, vibrant city of Lagos, Nigeria. As the first of four siblings, Chimezie's early life, marked by the sad passing of his mother in 2022, instilled in him a foundational resilience and a broad set of life skills acquired in a challenging environment. This artistic journey is a powerful story of survival, and his determination to be heard shines through his work like a lamp in the darkest cave.
From a young age, Chimezie imagined a future as a published writer, poet, essayist, and novelist. Decades later, living alone while maintaining an incredible work rate and a positive outlook, his persistent efforts to realise his dreams against steep odds have earned him profound respect. As his management noted, "His vision, talent, diligence, and humility deserve appropriate rewards."
Chimezie has faced a lifetime of adversity, including being born with Congenital Craniofacial Anomalies (CFA), a condition that resulted in unkind human interaction. In his own powerful words: "Despite having to endure the trauma of being looked down on by society during my formative years, I summoned the courage to press on ahead. Through years of endurance and determination, I was able to pull through my painful childhood and hold onto my imagination of being a published writer."
His refusal to yield to complacency is the driving force behind his art. After literally hundreds of rejections over almost eight years, he commendably became the published author he had always dreamed of becoming, turning his publications into screenplays and short scripts into audio drama podcasts.
Besides being an avid reader and writer, Chimezie's personal interests and areas of expertise are diverse, including animal care, essential food services, AI, alien life, and human empowerment. His works are diverse and captivating, lauded by early readers as "challenging and thought-provoking," and written "with pain, heart, and soul."
Chimezie B. Ihekuna writes to transcend the bar, ensuring that every story he tells leaves a lasting mark on the world.
