Dr Zoe S. Nivolianitou works as a senior researcher in the National Centre for Scientific Research "DEMOKRITOS" (NCSRD) in Athens, Greece. She is a Greek chartered Chemical engineer (1983-87, PhD and Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University in Athens, Greece) with further consolidated knowledge on the Risk and Safety Analysis of Chemical Plants with an over 30 year experience in the area of industrial safety. As a grantee of the European Commission, she spent four years at the JRC-ISPRA, Italy (1983-87). Her main research domains comprise Risk Analysis; Safety Auditing in the process Industry; Decision Making in Land Use Planning around chemical sites; Decision Support in Environmental Impact Analysis; and Human Factor analysis. Being among the principal investigators in several EC funded R&D projects (co-ordinator for DEMOKRITOS in five of them), she has also served in several international bodies (like the NATO and the EC) offering expertise in the above areas together with her consultancy to the Greek government in the evaluation of the 'SEVESO" reports. She has published more than 70 scientific publications and technical reports and has co-authored four books. Dr Nivolianitou is a member (through her Institute) at SRA-Europe and ESRA.
