Key Topics in Positive Psychology provides an insightful guide to this burgeoning, rebellious discipline. Exploring the science of the good life through theoretical foundations, empirical evidence, practical application, research methods, impacts and future trends, this book is a compelling call to consider mental health in a new light, where the focus shifts from treating illness to nurturing wellbeing.
In a concise yet comprehensive format, the book takes readers on an illuminating journey, beginning with the launch and historical evolution of Positive Psychology, highlighting its mission, vision, remit, the pivotal figures and moments that have shaped the discipline, and its applied side - Positive Psychology Interventions. It then takes a dive into several applied domains such as Positive Psychology Coaching, Positive Psychotherapy and Positive Psychiatry, demonstrating the integration of the field within applied psychological practices. Next, key scholarly interdisciplinary fields are discussed including Positive Education, Positive Work and Organisations, Positive Health and Positive Economic Psychology, exploring the core principles and theories of each domain, and innovative applications. The book also elucidates the vital research methodologies of the discipline, providing a foundation for understanding its evidence-base strategies. Further, the book critically discusses the impact of the research and applications in the field, highlighting its influence in academia and beyond, in clinical practice, policy-making, and in transforming people's life. The book concludes by uncovering the emerging trends that are set to shape the future of the discipline.
Key Topics in Positive Psychology is valuable reading for students, researchers, practitioners, and anyone interested in implementing Positive Psychology principles in their personal or professional life. It also seeks to promote the application of Positive Psychology in various settings and foster a widespread understanding of mental health and wellbeing.
