Chapter content includes a range of different contexts for teaching and learning. The content is very supportive for developing teaching assistants professional skills, knowledge and understanding. Each chapter includes a selection of bite- size pieces of information where theory, policy and examples from practice are clearly interrelated. The use of diagrams, tables and charts, case studies and suggestions for activities as well as prompts for reflection and further study are most helpful in terms of appealing to the audience. Duncan Hindmarch is Award Leader for the Foundation Degree in Education at Staffordshire University. He has over 15 years' teaching experience, having worked overseas and in the UK. With a background in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages, he has been involved in developing and delivering ESOL and Initial Teacher Training programmes since 2005.
Doug Hoy is a tutor on the Foundation Degree in Education for Staffordshire University. He is an educator with over 25 years' experience and has taught at all levels from infants (KS1) to post-graduate study, both in the UK and overseas. He is currently delivering and assessing the new Functional Skillscurriculum for adults.
Lynn Machin is Award Leader and Senior Lecturer within the School of Education at Staffordshire University. She has over 20 years' experience of teaching in a variety of roles within initial teacher education (ITE).
