This book is a complete reference to the use of shear thickening fluid (STF) in protective applications. It discusses the adaptive behavior of STF in various systems and how it is used effectively in a wide range of protective applications from low-velocity to high-velocity conditions. Covered applications include STF-based energy absorbing systems, anti-impact structures, deceleration devices, shock attenuation composites, and body armor applications. Shear Thickening Fluid in Protective Applications will be a valuable reference for practicing engineers, researchers, and scientists working in advanced materials, protective applications, and smart structures.

Person
Selim Gürgen, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Eskisehir Osmangazi University. He is the Director of Eskisehir Vocational School. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Gazi University and Middle East Technical University, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Eskisehir Osmangazi University. He was a visiting researcher at the University of Wollongong for a project on smart materials and worked as a researcher with the School of Transportation at Anadolu University for four years. Before his academic life, he worked as a manufacturing engineer in a joint venture of KMWE-Dutch Aero for three years. Dr. Gürgen has contributed to several industrial and research projects in collaboration with major organizations such as Fiat Automobiles, the Turkish Air Force, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK). He has many publications in refereed international journals and conferences and is co-editor of the book Materials, Structures, and Manufacturing for Aircraft (Springer, 2022). He serves as an editorial member for several international journals. His primary area of research is material science, in particular smart fluids and their applications in defense and aerospace applications. His Ph.D. studies were on shear thickening fluid (STF) and many of his projects and publications focus on STF and its applications.

File format: PDF
Copy protection: Watermark-DRM (Digital Rights Management)
System requirements:
- Computer (Windows; MacOS X; Linux): Use the free software Adobe Reader, Adobe Digital Editions, or any other PDF viewer of your choice (see eBook Help).
- Tablet/Smartphone (Android; iOS): Install the free app Adobe Digital Editions or another reading app for eBooks, e.g., PocketBook (see eBook Help).
- E-reader: Bookeen, Kobo, Pocketbook, Sony, Tolino and many more (only limited: Kindle).
The file format PDF always displays a book page identically on any hardware. This makes PDF suitable for complex layouts such as those used in textbooks and reference books (images, tables, columns, footnotes). Unfortunately, on the small screens of e-readers or smartphones, PDFs are rather annoying, requiring too much scrolling.
This eBook uses Watermark-DRM, a „soft” copy protection. This means that there are no technical restrictions to prevent illegal distribution. However, there is a personalised watermark embedded in the eBook that can be used to identify the purchaser of the eBook in the event of misuse and to provide evidence for legal purposes.
