In a city where every life is recorded, existence itself is controlled by the Ledger.

High above the streets rises the Spire, a towering archive where the names of every citizen are carved into stone and preserved by ancient magic. Births, deaths, marriages, property, identity-everything that proves a person exists is written there.

Everyone is recorded.

Everyone except Cheri.

For as long as she can remember, Cheri has lived quietly in the margins of the city, careful not to be seen, careful not to be noticed. Because a person without a name in the Ledger is more than illegal.

When the city's magical registry performs its seven-year Recalibration, the system discovers something it has never encountered before: a living woman who does not exist.

Now the Ledger's Enforcers are searching for her.
