Author
Chemiker und Mykologe
Dr habil. Jochen Gartz (born 1953) originally studied chemistry in Merseburg from 1972, where he obtained his doctorate in 1980. He then worked in the pharmaceutical industry in Leipzig until 1983. There he analysed and synthesised drugs. From 1984, he worked for many years on the processing of new natural substances from fungi (habilitation 1989). Pharmacology and chemistry are closely linked in this field. As part of this work, together with local mycologists in South Africa and the north-west of the USA, he discovered species of fungi that were previously unknown to science.
