This book closes with three chapters devoted to the results of the author's survey on the distribution and abundance of the common hippo throughout Africa.

Priscilla Barrett is the illustrator. She has painted mammals for field guides to numerous regions including southern Africa, Latin America, Britain and Europe, and New Zealand. She is a long-standing member of the Society of Wildlife Artists.
