When war looms over the American South, Clara LeBlanc faces a choice that could cost her everything. Bound by blood to a slaveholding family, she harbours a dangerous secret ? one that, if discovered, would mean ruin.
As the nation fractures and the first shots are fired, lives become entwined across plantations, battlefields, and the shadowy network of the Underground Railroad. Enslaved men and women risk everything for a chance at liberty, while those who aid them walk a razor's edge between courage and death. Long-held loyalties are tested, and families are torn apart.
From moonlit forests and hidden safe houses to the chaos of early battlefields, Railroad is a sweeping, multi-threaded historical novel of resistance, moral courage, and the choices that define who we become when history closes in.
Immersive and unflinching, Railroad brings the Underground Railroad and the opening years of the American Civil War vividly to life.
