What parts do people play in the drama of life?
Playing the Christ is the final volume of the Getting Changed trilogy, which offers the first sustained study of New Testament clothing metaphors. This book presents a theatrical vision of Christian living, arguing that Paul's call to put on the new self in Christ (Eph 4:24; Rom 13:14) beckons God's people to dramatically play a new part in the cosmic Christodrama.
But how do people act on the world stage without a comprehensive script? They improvise according to the spirit of the Script(ures).
Within this theatrical framework, this book examines eleven biblical texts where the apostles urge the saints to "put off" vices and "put on" virtues, Christ's armor, and white garments. These passages cast the Christian as the beleaguered, betrothed Bride of Christ who is called to act for victory in cosmic warfare and purity in Christ's wedding.
Playing the Christ invites readers to imagine their everyday actions as being caught up in the cosmic drama that their Creator skillfully directs.
