The Indian Planners in mid 1970's while preparing Seventh Plan Document recommended including agroforestry as a core subject in curricula of State Agricultural Universities (SAU's). Since then universities are teaching agroforestry as a compulsory subject at UG and many had created independent department of agroforestry which are conducting research and development in the subject. Many universities had also started PG and Ph.D programmes. The increase in strength of departments and colleges imparting agroforestry education signifies a positive trend toward this enterprise. Recently ICAR has redesigned the post of ARS from Forestry to Agroforestry and accordingly the subject has gained popularity. However, at present most of the literature available is either in form of research paper or edited books. The intention of the authors is to club the literature, materials and methods which are essential in teaching and conducting research in agroforestry both at U.G and P.G levels. The authors claim no originality in writing the book except for arranging and presentation of subject matter.
