A Druid was a member of the high-ranking priestly caste in ancient Celtic cultures. It is believed that they originally migrated West from modern-day Austria and Germany and traveled as far as the U.S.A. They were religious leaders and authorities, medical professionals, and political advisors. It was an oral tradition (so not much is known these days about them in detail since nothing was written down). They prided themselves on their outstanding memory. It is said that it took up to 19 years to train to be a druid. An accepted newcomer would first train to become a Bard (a poet), then an Ovate (a seer), and finally a Druid. I have heard that they used sweat lodges similar to those of the Native Americans.
