Description
In cerebral AVMs the feeding arteries are easily identifiable. The draining veins are usually termed "abnormal veins". The author describes how these veins are identifiable with reference to their origins in the embryo. These are veins that have failed to undergo the normal process of atresia and persisted in the adult due to the abnormal flow.
The book also deals with the complex flow patterns of the fistula based on experimental and CFD studies.

Person
After completing the FRCS (England) in 1970, he joined the Neurosurgery training programme in Manchester. During this period he obtained the PhD from the University of Salford. The thesis is the subject of this book. He spent some time in India as the head of the departments of Neurosurgery at National Institute of Neurosciences and St. Johns Medical College. He spent a few years in Saudi Arabia and emigrated to Australia. He was elected to the FRACS (Neurosurgery). He is now working as a consultant. He is involved with CFD research programme in the University of Sydney. His other research publications are Role of Hypothalamus in Acute Mountain sickness and Benefits of chewing coca leaves among Adean Highlanders.
