In Redemptions, D. Brandt draws readers into six poetic cycles that follow the soul's quiet struggles and discoveries-from sin's heavy hold to the everyday grit that builds resilience. Rooted in Christian faith, these poems face brokenness with grace, push back against machine-made art with real human spirit, and turn creative limits into deep connection. Playfulness hones the heart, sudden insights quiet the mind, and daily battles foster strength-all shaped in forms, like villanelles, that echo chains breaking into freedom.
Brandt, once a biochemist and now a poet, shows how discipline leads to release, calling readers to uncover joy in letting go. This isn't mere poetry; it's a witness to kindness that shapes choices, blending belief and craft through humor, stillness, and tough delight. For anyone grappling with faith and creativity, it becomes a steady friend in life's contradictions.

Person
Douglas R. Brandt, Ph.D., is a poet and former scientist, manager, and consultant whose lifelong curiosity was sparked in a Kansas basement lab of his own making. That drive carried him to a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Kansas State University and decades researching and managing all types of projects-holding two patents and multiple scientific publications-until retirement in 2022 gave poetry the space it had long deserved.
Early poems did appear alongside the lab work, slipped into his high school's Non Pareil (1973) and a Christian youth magazine soon after, but poetry only fully claimed him later. His writing now marries formal craft (villanelles, quatrains, looping refrains) with a scientist's precision and a believer's honest grappling with suffering, hope, and redemption. The Redemptions Rhythms Trilogy-Redemptions, Deliverance, and Redemptions Refrain-traces that pattern across breadth, depth, and daily reach.
He lives in Lafayette, Indiana, with his wife Cheryl. Their four children, spouses, and four grandchildren are scattered from nearby to afar. He still runs barefoot and refuses easy answers.
