Nair received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, USA. He has held several professional and research positions in India, USA and New Zealand (NZ). Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical, Computer Engineering and Software Engineering at University of Auckland, New Zealand. His research interest includes voltage collapse, resilience, cyber-physical security and special protection schemes. He has contributed to over 270 conference and journal papers, two books and several book chapters. He has been serving as an Executive of CIGRE New Zealand National Committee since 2008, and is also the Technical Chair and Event Manager currently. For CIGRE B5, Nirmal-Kumar is a technical advisor for New Network Requirements, and has been involved in 4 working groups and 2 task forces, along with several papers. He was recognized in 2018 as a CIGRE Distinguished Member.
