- Libraries are increasingly incorporating maker spaces, and this responds to that trend and offers examples drawn from libraries by librarians
- The book offers libraries a way of increasing capacity without adding cost--it's a menu of possibilities that run from dedicated gallery space to very lo-fi projects and flexible enough to be useful to libraries of widely different sizes, concentrations, and budgets
- Libraries have been on the forefront of reconsidering their role in the community and expanding that beyond simply lending--this takes their lead and engages their resources (the collection) in new ways
- Examples in the book include professional artists and library patrons both, offering ways to be of use to creative people at all skill levels
- The authors have a very visible and well-followed presence on their website, http://www.libraryasincubatorproject.org/, as well as its twitter account, @IArtLibraries
- The authors are heavily involved in ALA groups and are represented on panels at Annual
- The book offers creatively inclined amateurs to think of their library in a new way and should be a fun, useful resource for anyone looking for inspiration or projects
- Examples range from the crafty (pop-up books) to the community-minded (library galleries) to documentary (photo projects) to the technically complex ("listening" to libraries via Dewey decimal frequencies)
