Howard Armstrong has been researching micropalaeontology fortwenty years and has published extensively on appliedmicropalaeontology, numerical biostratigraphy, conodontpalaeobiology and dispersal biogeography. His research currentlyfocuses on environmental and biological patterns and processesassociated with Palaeozoic glaciations. He is Senior Lecturer inMicropalaeontology at the University of Durham.
Martin Brasier began research as a marine biologistaboard HMS Fox in 1970, mapping the microbial ecology of Caribbeanreefs and algal mats. The author is well known for the firstedition of Microfossils and for his work on early biosphereevolution, integrating microfossils, biogeochemistry andchemostratigraphy from the earliest signs of life in the Archaeanthrough to the Cambrian explosion of multicellular forms. Hemaintains a special interest in the metabolism and evolution ofbacterial and protist fossil groups, and has worked with NASA onthe protocols for recognition of the earliest life on Earth andbeyond. He is currently Professor of Palaeobiology at theUniversity of Oxford.
